Sky Italia wins soccer contest

ROME -- Chalk one up for Rupert Murdoch's Sky Italia satcaster, which has won an important ruling over World Cup soccer rights against rival service Mediaset Premium service, controlled by Silvio Berlusconi. A Paris arbitration court has rejected Mediaset's legal suit proclaiming that Sky this season broke EU competition rules by getting upset up all rights for the FIFA 2010 Nigeria World Cup games, and decreasing to re-sell the DTT rights, which this did not use. According to Mediaset, under EU rules, established in 2003 when Sky Italia became a member of an italian guy , market just like a pay TV monopolist, Sky could not ignore rivals in using this method. Sky Italia has ignore Mediaset and pubcaster RAI from UEFA Champions League Soccer for three years, beginning this season, by needing to pay $172 million for exclusive rights, triple what its previous non-exclusive UEFA package had cost.
